the Colony or transfer this Licence to or permit the

same to be used by any other Person.

2. The Director of Public Works may revoke this Licence

at any time by giving One Month's Notice of such

revocation to the Licensee. And in every such case

the bicensee shall be entitled to a return of a

proportionate part of the Licence Fee for the un-

expired term of the Licence.

3..Notice in the Hong Kong Gazette of the revocation of

this Licence shall be sufficient in all-cases where

personal notice cannot be effect.

4. No buildings of any kind shall be erected nor shall

any works of a permanent character be carried on,

on the ground to which this licence refers without

the written permission of the Director of Public

works.

5. Should such permission be obtained the holder of this

licence shall have no claim for any compensation

whatever on account of such building or work should

the Director of Public Works revoke this licence un-

der terms of condition 2.

6. This Licence is aôt transferable.

7. Should the licensee fail to renew this Licence during

the month of January following, and remain in anauthor-

ized occupation of the land, a sum of $....cents 43.

per month in excess of the reguler yearly fee hereby

charged for reat, shall be payable by him for every

month or part of a month that he has continued in such

unauthorized occupation.

allowed by virtue of this Licence to occupy the land here

specified, do hereby undertake truly and faithfully to

abide by the whole of the above conditions, and do hereby

furthermore particularly pledge themselves not to fail

in their renewal of this licence within the time pres- cribed in Gondition No. 7. should they desire to con-

tinue in occupation of the land after the expiration

of the current year.

I am directed by the Administrator to inform you

that His Excellency has been instructed by the Secretary

of State to grant you the concession prayed for by

your letter of 23rd: March last to lay a submarine

cable between Hong Kong and Kowloon connected at one'

end with your offices in Victoria and at the other

with a telegraphic line on the Anglo Chinese Frontier

to be establihed to communicate with Canton. This

concession is made subject to the general terms of the

Agreement made with the Great Northern Company in 1870

and the right is reserved to Government of granting

other concessions hereafter if thought necessary although

it is not contemplated at the present moment to exercise
